A Letter from the Dru Congress

by Jane Clapham, Congress Co-Director

A small group of thoughtful people could change the world. Indeed, it's the only thing that ever has.

- Margaret Mead

The Congress two weeks ago reminded me of Margaret Mead’s famous statement. As one of the main event organizers, the result of months of preparation was seeing two hundred people experiencing the power and beauty of who they were. It made every second of effort worth while! There really is something so powerful about coming together with like-minded people as a dedication to world peace. At the Congress the combined effect was palpable.

I’ve been reading through the feedback forms and was so touched I thought I’d like to pass on the highlights people have been describing to you.

  • The highlight for Congress for me was…
  • The wonderful atmosphere
  • Meeting so many wonderful people
  • Some real time out to find myself again
  • The peace of the walk
  • A wonderful five days all round – well balanced and inspiring. Well planned and practicalEverything was perfect. What else can I write?
  • Making so many friends
  • Having such a great variety of workshops to choose from
  • Yoga outside in the sun in beautiful surroundings
  • Finally learning some Dru Yoga Dance – I’ve been wanting to do it since I saw it at the Scottish Conference
  • The quality of teaching of Dru yoga
  • I loved the whole event - Moments of personal space within the whole congress

This year at the Gala evening, graduates from all over the world received their Dru Yoga diplomas. The Dru Team also presented the following awards:

  • Humanitarian Award – Karen Oostinga and Klaus Wolff
  • Dru Yoga Teacher of the Year – Margaret Ford
  • World Peace Flame Award – Sheila Roberts

Delegates arrived from as far away as Canada, Switzerland, Spain and the Low Countries.

Some had come for a holiday in which to deepen their experience of yoga, while others just needed to recharge and relax. Some came to learn about Prenatal yoga, or to deepen their experience of Dru Yoga as part of their training course. Others came for some time out using meditation to access inner peace.

The event had a waiting list this year – and we were turning people away in the last couple of weeks. We are now planning next year’s event and will be letting you know the details as soon as we have them.
