Dru Yoga helps women in Inner City Liverpool - Nov 06

Sylvia Barrington is an experienced Dru Yoga teacher from Liverpool. She has taken her yoga expertise into an area where it is greatly needed – to empower women who live in the deprived inner city areas of Liverpool.

Sylvia explained, 'I use Dru Yoga to help women who have issues like depression, which is very common here. They have no confidence and are lacking in direction, or might just want to do something with their lives but aren’t sure what to do.

'Within the college I work with in Liverpool, we offer four courses, which range from 10 week to year-long programmes that provide learning opportunities for women. They cover subjects such as building confidence, creative writing, creative art for relaxation and of course Dru yoga and relaxation to help with stress management.

'Dru Yoga is very successful and is the carrot that attracts the students in through the college doors. Once they’re in, we usually keep them forever! We have currently had to provide a bespoke course for one group who after two years on the programme have begged us to put something on for them. Ideally the courses provide a safe environment in which women can relax, discover their creative side (work with the right brain) and find direction for the future....’

Many thanks to Sylvia and other Dru Yoga teachers for taking the benefits of yoga to where it’s most needed!
