Life Foundation UK - Overview
The Life Foundation is a network of people who share a common vision that the world can be made a better place by the actions of each and every individual.
Its goals are best summed up by the words: “Transform the world by giving people the tools to transform themselves”. It aims to communicate experience and knowledge in the field of health and well being at every level of life (physical, mental, emotional, intellectual, spiritual).
Core Activities
These goals are achieved through a wide variety of courses, seminars, conferences and retreats, which offer tools and techniques in the fields of health, well-being and personal development. These include yoga courses, meditation training, stress management and work-life balance programmes, as well as the creation of a wide range of home-study resources including books and audio-visual products.
In addition, people associated with the Life Foundation have developed expertise in detraumatisation programmes for those who have experienced conflict in war zones or in everyday society, as well as running various humanitarian and educational projects.
One of the Life Foundation’s offshoots is the World Peace Flame initiative, where a flame of peace has travelled across the world, reaching more than 10 million people. The World Peace Flame is now run by a registered not-for-profit company in the Netherlands, Stichting World Peace Flame.
The work of people associated with the Life Foundation varies in emphasis across the world while sharing the common thread of giving people self-help tools and techniques to improve their well-being. The majority of activities are financed through courses, events, training and home-study material, with occasional donations received for larger projects.

Ethos and origins
The Life Foundation was originally inspired by the parents of one of its five founders, Mansukh Patel. Mansukh’s father, Chagganbhai, and mother, Ecchaben, were both strongly influenced by Mahatma Ghandhi and his non-violent independence movement. They shared their own practical approach to personal transformation with Mansukh and four of his close university friends, who together founded the Life Foundation in 1978 in North Wales, UK.
A wide variety of people have contributed their expertise, time and enthusiasm since then. Individuals associated with the Life Foundation have formed various companies focusing on aspects of the Life Foundation’s activities, for instance Life Foundation School of Therapeutics UK, and Life Foundation International, which conduct courses and projects in the UK and The Netherlands respectively.
Operating predominantly in the UK, The Netherlands, North America and Australia, these companies include people from a wide variety of professional, cultural and faith backgrounds who share a common vision of working together to make the world a better place.
Over the years some 30,000 people have participated in the work of the Life Foundation around the world, either by taking part in courses, helping with events or as employees.
There are currently around 30 full time employees of the Life Foundation in the UK – which is the largest arena of its activities – supported by others who volunteer time or professional expertise on an ad hoc basis.

Structure
Over the years, people associated with the Life Foundation in the UK have gone on to create their own activities and companies, each of which acts independently, managing its own affairs. As a result, the Life Foundation as a group is now an informal network of people who share common objectives. In order to respond to the issues and opportunities of the day, the network maintains an informal, consultative structure. This structure is based on a two-tier arrangement of directors and project coordinators within individual companies, supported by a continuing contribution from full-time staff.
These companies include:
Life Foundation School of Therapeutics, UK, formed in 1988 to conduct the courses and humanitarian activities of the Life Foundation. It now conducts Life Foundation courses based largely in Wales, UK, as well as creating a variety of home-study materials.
Similar activities are maintained by:
Life Foundation International, which conducts Life Foundation activities in Continental Europe.
Life Foundation School of Therapeutics (Australia)
Life Foundation School of Therapeutics (USA)
In addition, the World Peace Flame Foundation has been formed as an independent body conducting the activities of the World Peace Flame worldwide.
